What Is the Arts and Crafts movement?

The Arts and Crafts movement was a stylistic and artistic movement that occurred roughly between the years 1860 and 1918. The movement focused on the NATURAL materials as a REACTION against the industrial revolution and mass production. Some of the most important designers of this period include William Morris, Walter Crane, Gustav Stickley, Frank Loyd Right, William Diggins and many others.

The Arts and Crafts Movement Tends to Focus on natural form, materials, and look.

Colors of the movement are often Muted and not very bright: RED, BLACK, TAN, BROWN, LIGHT PURPLE, LIGHT BLUE, MINT GREEN, AND PALE YELLOW.

FONT STYLES: Bembo, Goudy, Caxton, Bertham, Berkley, Centaur....

Arts and Crafts contains a controlled and refined complexity in regards to Font, book printing, and over all design.

Styles associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement would be the PRAIRIE STYLE and the MISSION STYLE, I chose to do this era in design because the simplicity and honesty of materials. Growing up in the Southwest and and living in many areas of the country I grew up liking the mission style because of it simplicity and it neatness, something that i would create or buy and go with lots of items in my house or future Home....Here are some examples of what I mean.
